As announced yesterday (Aug 2), Singapore Democratic Party will be contesting in the following 5 constituencies:
1) Holland-Bukit Timah GRC (Minister Vivian Balakrishnan)
2) Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC
3) Bukit Batok SMC
4) Yuhua SMC (Minister Grace Fu)
5) Bukit Panjang SMC
The SDP’s decision to contest in these constituencies is vital to removing Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Minister of Culture Grace Fu.
The two PAP millionaire ministers are one of the poorest performers in Parliament, with their ministries in shambles. Minister Grace Fu, especially, also frequently engage in petty politics with the opposition Workers’ Party. In 2018, the PAP minister repeatedly demanded WP Sylvia Lim to apologise in Parliament, for questioning the PAP government over tax raises.
Under Grace Fu’s ministerial leadership, Singaporean poor are worse off than yesterdays with many struggling for a living. There has also been no movement from her Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, over the past 6 months – signifying that she is being just another seat warmer.
Aside from Grace Fu, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan must also go for mishandling the country’s diplomacy with Malaysia, China, Cambodia and Vietnam. Diplomatic ties with Malaysia is at an all-time low, with numerous issues ranging from the High Speed Rail to water territories, unresolved even after 2 years.
Diplomatic ties with Singapore’s biggest trading partner, China, is also suffering under Vivian Balakrishnan who chose to side with the United States over the South China Sea dispute. Thailand and Vietnam are also angered at the Singapore government’s position calling Vietnamese forces “invaders” during the overthrowing of the Khmer Rouge regime.
Singaporeans can only have a better future with better leaders in power, and having the same Ministers only mean the country will continue its decline.
